EQC ON SOLD EARTHQUAKE REPAIRS FOR 1920S HILLSIDE PROPERTY
Background
- Residential building on sloping site in Lyttelton.
- 1920s original timber pile foundation requiring replacement due to lateral movement and water damage.
- Homeowner-requested renovations carried out concurrently.
Our Solution
- Given the complex site conditions, the structural design required close liaison with specialist geotechnical engineers.
- Full foundation rebuild, including the balcony, with a mixture of anchor piles and braced piles. Due to access constraints from the superstructure being retained in-situ during the works, pile footings were hand excavated.
- Floor levels improvement achieved.
- Renovations included enlarging the balcony and replacement of selected door and window external openings, with corresponding wall bracing improvement.
